How to Create a Crystal Bath: What You Need to Know

Do you need a little - or a lot - more relaxation in your life?

How about romance? Self-care? Or even just a little luxury?

If you answered “yes” to any (or all!) of these, a crystal bath might be a great tool for you! Have you heard of crystal baths before? If not, we’re here to tell you all about them - including exactly what to do, to create a perfect, luxurious crystal bath just for you.

What is a crystal bath?

A crystal bath, at its most simple, is a bath you create that incorporates crystals to boost the beauty, energy, and healing properties of your experience.

Crystal baths are created with purpose and intention, to create an experience that will support you in your goals - even if that is just to relax. This focus on intention and purpose creates a mindful experience to help your body, mind, and spirit take the time it needs to rest, restore, and recharge.

Crystal baths can be used to help you to relax, rejuvenate, soak your muscles, take time for yourself, release the day, clear off any energy you’ve picked up, feel more sensual, practice mindfulness - or for any other reason that makes you feel good.

What kind of information do I need, to create a crystal bath?

Just like anything, there are some basic things to know, that will help your crystal bath experience run quite a bit smoother - and make it much easier to relax. Instead of wondering, let's lay out some basic information, so you can get started quickly and with confidence - after all, none of us needs to make things more complicated...am I right?!

Another reason to know some basic information is for your own safety.* As we know, not all stones are safe to put in water. Some may dissolve, some may get damaged, and some may leach toxic substances (like copper, zinc, or arsenic) into the water. This isn't meant to scare you - but it is important to really know which crystals should stay away from water.

Truthfully, the majority of crystals do contain some kind of element that could be toxic, if not used carefully. Chrysocolla, for example, is a copper-based mineral. Since it has traces of copper, you would never put it into water (as the copper can leach out into the water), and you want to wash your hands after using it. Again, this doesn't mean that you should be scared of chrysocolla! Chrysocolla is a beautiful blue stone that is excellent for the throat chakra, for rejuvenation, and feminine energy. I've worked with it, gridded with it, and even mined for it (that was super fun - but also really hard work!). But you definitely don't want to add it into your bath water. Make sense?

Crystals for your bath

All of that said, there are some crystals that are not toxic to put in water (yay!). One of these crystals is clear quartz.

Primarily, clear quartz is used as an amplifier – it can amplify the properties of other stones. Interestingly, this is also one of its uses in everyday life: as a way to move energy from one place to another, such as with electronics. Quartz is also easily programmable: When you set your intentions for the stone, it can help to amplify that energy, whether it be for abundance, love, or peace. In ancient times, quartz was thought to be water that was so deeply frozen that it became permanently crystallized.

Because of quartz's properties of programmability and amplification, it's possible to use quartz as a "jack of all trades" crystal, that can be substituted for any crystal you'd like. It can be programmed to bring in the energy of abundance, peace, relaxation, love, momentum - or any other intention you have. This makes it a perfect stone for crystal baths, because it's very versatile. Clear quartz tumbles are also very easy to find - and usually pretty affordable.
