How's your screen time lately?
If you’ve been spending more time in front of the computer lately - possibly due to working remotely during COVID-19 - you may be feeling a bit...burned out. This literal and figurative feeling of fatigue often happens as a result of 1) staring at our screens for too long, and 2) being in the presence of low-range electromagnetic frequencies for a long period of time.
Luckily, there are some ways that we can combat this, and create a better working environment. In this article, I’ll share both crystal and non-crystal ways that you can get some relief if this is something you’ve been experiencing.
What is EMF?
First, let’s talk about why this happens. Computer screens (and other electronics where you are looking at a screen) emit blue light that affects the chemicals in our bodies, causing a reaction that can disrupt our natural biorhythms and cause eye strain. If the lighting in the room in your work area isn’t quite right (or, for example, is fluorescent lighting), this can compound the issue. Along with that, if you are working remotely, there are fewer in-person meetings to attend, fewer “water cooler” breaks, and fewer spontaneous chats with coworkers - so you’re left staring at your screen for even longer than you were in the office.
One way to mitigate the effects of screen time and blue light emissions - and to give your eyes a break - is with blue light blocking glasses. There is a large range of options for blue light blocking glasses and they vary widely in price. Luckily, there are some pretty affordable solutions, if you look around. I’ve had a lot of luck with blue light blocking glasses I’ve purchased from Zenni Optical - and you can even choose your frames.
Additionally, if you are on your computer, cell phone, tablet, television, and other common devices, you are also dealing with EMFs. Electromagnetic frequencies - or EMFs - are low-level forms of electrical charges that move through the air. These are created by almost everything that has a plug. The more time you spend with your devices - especially if they use WiFi to connect to the Internet - the more EMFs you are exposed to. Why does this matter? Some people may experience sleep disruptions, brain fog, or even notice that they feel more distractible when they are around EMFs often. In fact, this is one of the reasons that some people recommend that you sleep with your phone at least two feet away from your head: to keep it farther away, lowering the EMFs that can reach you while you sleep (and since you’re not actually working for the 8ish hours you’re in bed, this is a great opportunity to unplug).
Crystals for EMF Protection
If you’ve ever wondered if there was a way to reduce the EMFs in your environment using crystals, the answer is yes! Here are four of the most-common EMF-reducing stones that you can use - and, bonus, they are pretty easy to find (you may even already have a few) - so you can start addressing your EMF exposure right away.
These are all great stones to set near your computer, place in front of your laptop (in between you and the device), or have on your desk.
Black tourmaline is a "heavy" stone: it's weighty and can help to really get you connected with the Earth. It is also said to be a very protective stone. When I have a hard time winding down from the day and can't sleep, I'll grab one of these and it helps me ground almost instantly, so I can fall asleep.

Also called Fool's Gold (for its appearance and shiny, golden similarities to the precious metal), pyrite is said to bring good luck and wealth. Sparkling pyrite can help to spark creativity, aid in manifestation practices, boost self confidence and willpower, and nourish your solar plexus chakra. Pyrite is also known as a stone of protection, which can help in shielding one from negative energy.

Hematite is a stone that is said to be excellent for grounding and balance. It is a stone that supports the root chakra, but is also said to be helpful in balancing and aligning all of the chakras. Hematite is also known as a stone that can help to reduce stress and worry, absorb negative energy, and promote overall balance and calm.Hematite is a stone that is said to be excellent for grounding and balance. Shungite is a stone found exclusively in Russia. It is a black, carbon-based material that has been said for years to be extremely good for absorbing EMF rays and for "clearing up" anything that is negative. It is said to be protective, shielding, and clearing. Shungite comes in several grades (or qualities) and can be rough or polished. Elite Shungite is the highest quality (and price point), containing approximately 98% carbon.
These crystals are all known for their EMF-protecting abilities...as well as their other energetic properties. Additionally, several of these crystals - particularly black tourmaline and hematite - are amazing crystals for grounding and connecting to the Earth.
So if you’re looking for a way to counteract some of your time in front of the computer lately, give some (or all) of these crystals a try! Remember to take breaks. Try some blue light blocking glasses. Drink lots of water. Stretch. Take a walk if you can. And be sure to breathe deeply for a couple of minutes each day.
***always be sure you are not putting magnetic crystals near your computer! If they are strong enough, they may affect the hard drive. Hematite and pyrite can have trace amounts of magnetite and you definitely want to make sure you are not using "magnetic hematite" - which isn't hematite at all, really, anyway). Remember: if you are in doubt, leave it out (or, in this case, away)!
Sending you so much love,
